Dr. Bashar Shala is a notable figure in both the medical and Islamic scholarly communities. He is a cardiologist based in Memphis, Tennessee, where he founded the Memphis Cardiovascular Center. Dr. Shala completed his medical degree at the University of Aleppo in Syria in 1990 and further specialized in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He has received numerous accolades for his contributions to cardiac care, including multiple Physician Recognition awards from the American Medical Association and the James Givens’ Award for Excellence from the University of Tennessee.
In addition to his medical career, Dr. Shala is an esteemed Islamic scholar and lecturer. He has a strong background in Islamic history and law, and he actively engages in Da’wah (Islamic outreach) within his local community. Dr. Shala regularly presents lectures on various Islamic topics, including the Seerah (biography of the Prophet Muhammad) and the history of the Sahabah (companions of the Prophet). Dr. Shala is also involved in interfaith initiatives and community service, earning recognition such as the Diversity Memphis ‘Humanitarian of the Year’ award in 2011 and the Roosevelt Institute’s Freedom of Religion Award in 2017.
